How to be happy even though the world is getting crazier Part 3: Good habits boost your happiness

What good habits do you have?

Life largely consists of habits. To a large extent, we think today the way we thought yesterday. We also usually act according to the same pattern, because, strictly speaking, our subconscious is at work here. For example, we drive a car without thinking about which gear to shift into, or tie our shoelaces without considering how. This is generally a good thing, because if we had to think about everything step by step before performing every activity, we would constantly be overwhelmed. Many things we thought and did as children are now taken for granted and anchored in our subconscious as automatic processes. Of course, it's good that we no longer have to think about brushing our teeth every day or similar activities. But there are also habits that stand in the way of our well-being and happiness. If we unconsciously tell ourselves that something is too difficult, that we're not good enough, or if we constantly focus on potential problems or obstacles, then this is not good for us. This can sometimes lead to limiting beliefs that we are often not even aware of. But more on this in another blog post.

If we want to be happy, good habits are crucial. We must consciously create these. Because not everything we've learned so far and everything anchored in our subconscious contributes to our happiness. If we want to be happy, we must ask ourselves what is good for us.

What might be good for you? It's good for me to be grateful every day. For example, for my wonderful body, which functions almost nonstop as I want it to. My heart beats tirelessly and evenly, and I don't even have to think about my digestion. My hands can grip, my feet walk, and all of this is pain-free. Many people only realize how valuable something is when something isn't working as it should. In my opinion, we should be aware of this and therefore be happy about it much more often. Since I started regularly thinking about what I can be grateful for, the more things come to mind. I go from one topic to another; for example, I am grateful for the sunlight, a loving hug, the purring of my kitten, the smile when I meet someone, the delicious fruit, the chocolate, or the phone call with a wonderful friend. There are countless opportunities for gratitude every day, if we are conscious of them. I can confirm that Francis Bacon's statement is true: "It's not the happy who are grateful. It's the grateful who are happy." If you like, try it consciously.

You certainly have some good habits that are good for you. Perhaps you meditate regularly, exercise, laugh a lot, eat healthily, or consciously surround yourself with people who are good for you. Perhaps you regularly spend time in nature, walk through the forest, or are an active gardener.

For me, many of these things have actually become habits that contribute to my daily happiness . It's not like everything is always perfect. Obviously, constantly new challenges are part of life. I've realized that I have control over how I react to external conditions. I don't always succeed yet, but I'm practicing being an active creator of my feelings.

For some time now, I've been reacting more calmly to it, which has made my life significantly easier and happier. "Nothing is as constant as change," said Heraclitus of Ephesus (535-475 BC).

I struggled with this for a long time, but now I'm able to accept it more easily. I believe it's self-love, above all, that gives me the inner strength to do it. It has completely transformed my life, enriched it, and filled me with happiness. Self-love is expressed in treating yourself with love. This inevitably has a positive effect on those around you. Because your radiance warms the hearts of those around you.

In our community with heart there are various WONDERFUL people who make the world a more beautiful place with their habits.

Petra Woods, Gabriele Ibold, and Ute Wind regularly explore a new daily lesson from A Course in Miracles and share it with us in their workshops and posts. Eileen Amrel's natural gifts help in a variety of ways. She seems to know every herb and its healing properties. Eileen inspires the community daily with her posts.

At Junia Gutjahr's Laughter Yoga every Monday, you'll be completely in the here and now. Afterwards, you'll feel recharged. I personally send an inspiring photo message daily in my LebenFreude group, because I love taking photos and motivating you with pictures and sayings.

This is just a tiny glimpse into the enormous range of our community of hearts. It's impossible for me to present ALL the offerings here, as we already have a considerable number of wonderful options. Just take a look at them if you like and decide for yourself which new habit can enrich your life. You'll find a wonderful, colorful bouquet of different options that can enrich your life as you wish.

I'm grateful for our wonderful community and especially for Sabine Lüers and Jörg Winkler bringing us together here. THANK YOU!
